David Bartrum's Blog
You spend the early part of the year working flat out trying to put the coming season together, talking to drivers and sponsors trying to do deals to get the season sorted, talking to suppliers for parts, tools and equipment, painting race cars in the colours for the year, getting team kit organised, and getting staff ready to start testing for the up coming onslaught of the season.
At Motorbase we have had 2 teams for the TOCA package with both BTCC and Carrera Cup.
At the beginning of the year when you are wandering around the Autosport show you think you have got forever to get ready, but then it all kicks in and you are loading the trucks for the first round and the previous 3 months are a blur and you are into the season.
The race crews are the lifeblood of any motorsport team, and they have to be ready to work very hard and long hours, and keep a good sense of humour and a positive attitude at all times. The Motorbase teams are a brilliant bunch that work flat out and keep smiling even when it's been one of those weekends, and we did have a few meetings this year when we smiled through the face of adversity, so I would like to thank all my team members for all their hard work and commitment.
Once the season starts it passes by in no time and then suddenly you find yourself at the end of the year putting on your dinner suit, going to the awards and talking about the year that's been and gone so quickly.
At the same time you find you start the process all over again for next year and also you are selling cars from this season and talking about what's next. This for us with both Porsche and BTCC is a busy time; we need to move on. As a team we learned a lot in 2007, and we want to do better in 2008, so car choice and then driver choice are very important. For 2008 we have made our car choice for BTCC, this will be announced soon, it will take the team to a new level and will give us a shot at the front of the grid, so now we will start trying to talk to the right drivers to go with our new cars.
We have had some very good drivers this year, and it would be nice to see them in a current car, we as a team feel we did not get to show what we can really do in the BTCC, so this has made us all very very determined to have a good showing next season.
At this stage we do not know who the drivers will be, who knows!! Matt I would like to keep with us and I would like to see Steven Kane move up to BTCC from Carrera Cup, he certainly has the speed and ability, but we really do have an open mind and are excited about next year as we feel we will be able to go out in 2008 to win.
I would like to thank all our supporters and hopefully we can have a good year in 2008, so keep an eye out for news on the team for the new season that is only a few months away, it will be here in no time at all!
