News 2006: Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Annual Awards

Porsche Carrera Cup Annual Awards 2006Motorbase Performance was prominent amongst the major winners when the annual awards for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB were presented recently. Phil Quaife collected an impressive trophy for winning the 2006 pro-am title and took away a cheque for £7000, while team boss David Bartrum later picked up a cheque for £4000 as reward for the team finishing second in the prestigious team championship.

Phil QuaifeQuaife's award came at the end of a superb season for the 20-year old from Kent, who really established himself as rising star of British racing with a series of storming drives. He won the pro-am title in 10 of the season's 20 races and challenged for the overall podium on a regular basis.

"I'm really glad we chose Carrera Cup this year," said Phil. "The pro-am title was definitely the aim for this season. But we didn't know until the first round where we'd be on the grid. It's been a great year and I've really enjoyed it. Other than non-finishes at Thruxton and Donington, the year has gone very well," he said after earning loud applause from rival teams and drivers as a capacity audience of 250 packed into the Belfry Hotel.

Phil Quaife"The Porsche is a fantastic car. I've loved every minute of driving it and I always come out of the car with a smile on my face," continued Phil, one of the youngest drivers on the grid. But his young years belied a committed and determined racer, who was always a contender.

Phil Quaife"The team has done a great job. David Bartrum has been in the game for a long time and the car has been very good all year. We've had no mechanical failures at all. The two non-finishes we had were from damage, which was unfortunate.

"Porsche has done a fantastic job this year, introducing the new 997 Cup car, which is a big step forward from the 996. I've really enjoyed my year with Porsche and I'll definitely stay with the car. I'd like to get into long-distance sports and GT racing eventually, that's my goal. My dream is to race at Le Mans!"
