News 2007: Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Preview: Brands Hatch, 18/19 August 2007

Wrotham-based Motorbase Performance will be competing on home ground this weekend (18/19 August) as the team enters cars at Brands Hatch in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

While Steven Kane continues to head the title race in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, backed up by Sam Hancock and Andy Britnell, Matt Allison and Tom Ferrier will handle the team's SEAT Toledos in rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Allison is having a fine debut season in the hugely competitive BTCC and is keen to return to the track where his BTCC career started back in April. He has displayed great pace and maturity in his first year at this level and will be working to use the experience gained at the start of the season to good effect.

Alongside Matt for a third weekend in the Motorbase BTCC team is Tom Ferrier and he will be aiming to put his Brands experience to good use. A podium finish remains the target for the team this season and Brands is just the sort of place where that could happen.

With the team based almost within earshot of the circuit, there will be bags of home support for both the touring car and Porsche elements of the Motorbase squad.

Although his 28-point advantage over James Sutton in the Carrera Cup is significant, Kane knows that one bad weekend could change the title race completely. "The game plan is to stay out of trouble, but I do want to try and win races. I love Brands," says Kane. "We went well there in April and that was the first time I'd raced the car."

London-based Hancock, meanwhile, will also be on home ground and is getting closer and closer to that all-important first win. A mighty second place last time out at Snetterton proves that Sam is now ready to win as he battles with Michael Caine for fourth place in the championship table.

In the pro-am category, Kent-based Britnell is leading the chase of Nigel Rice. "It's always special to race at Brands and we'll have a huge crowd of supporters," says Britnell.

More good news for the BTCC is that ITV will be significantly expanding its coverage of the races at Brands Hatch, with live slots on both ITV4 and ITV1.

ITV4 will be on air from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, showing a full re-run of race one followed by live coverage of race two. ITV1 will be on air from 2.50pm to 4.20pm with its regular round-up plus live coverage of race three. That means a total of three and a half hours' airtime on ITV's channels for the Brands races.

Live coverage of all of Sunday's races at Brands, including the Carrera Cup, will also be available on the Setanta Sports satellite programme, starting from 10am. Please note that these times are provisional and are subject to change.
