HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship
Snetterton, Rounds 16/17/18
Event Preview

July 29, 2009

Jonny AdamAirwaves BMW will return to action in the HiQ MSA Touring Car Championship at Snetterton this weekend aiming to secure silverware.

The Kent-based squad will travel to East Anglia in a confident mood after its excellent showing in the first half of the season and positive outings in testing during the BTCC's summer break.

The team tasted success at Snetterton last year when, under the Motorbase banner, Steven Kane stormed to second place and secured the squad's first-ever BTCC podium with a BMW.  That result confirmed the growing promise of David Bartrum's outfit and set it on the path to a run of strong results towards the end of the 2008 season.

With drivers Rob Collard and Jonny Adam having racked up two wins and a further two podium finishes between them already this year, the Airwaves BMW team is keen to add to that tally in what promises to be a hugely exciting run-in to the 2009 title race.  With one of the most tightly-contested championship battles for many years about to be renewed, Airwaves BMW holds a strong second place in the independent teams' table and is looking to chase down rivals Team RAC over the remaining five race weekends.

Airwaves BMW driver Rob Collard is also still in the hunt for honours.  The Hampshireman is currently fifth overall in the drivers' championship, and is one of six stars who look set to battle it out in a titanic title showdown.  Meanwhile, Jonny Adam has already stood on the podium during his rookie BTCC campaign – and the ambitious young Scotsman is determined to match his team-mate's achievement of standing on the top step and winning a race before the season is out.

Airwaves BMW Team Principal David Bartrum said:
"I think everyone in the Airwaves BMW team has enjoyed the mid-season break but are now just raring to get back into action at Snetterton this weekend.  Our preparations for the second half of the season have gone really well and I think we have taken another step forward in terms of performance.  The drivers, the BMW 320si and the boys in the garage all gelled really well in the first half of the year, and now with some good testing under our belts we all believe we can maintain our high standards and challenge for race wins in the remaining rounds.  That won't be easy with so many other good teams and drivers on the grid alongside us, but we are determined to show that we can be right up there and consistently win silverware on merit."

Rob CollardAirwaves BMW Team driver Rob Collard said:
"I am quietly confident going into the races at Snetterton.  We were quick in testing during the mid-season break and made some good progress with our setup.  The car had a really good balance to it, and with a new engine for this weekend we are hoping this combination of improvements will give us some real performance benefits.  I will definitely be looking to run up there in the top six, but you only have to look at how close the field is just now to realise that just to get into the top 10 you have to be a really good driver and have a really good package in terms of the car and the team behind you in the garage.  We showed in the first half of the season we could win races and I think we have the ability to do it again in the second half.  It's been a really good championship so far and it's still wide open, so I want to get the momentum going again with some good results at Snetterton and keep us in the frame for some silverware come the end of the season."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Jonny Adam said:
"I am really looking forward to getting back to work at Snetterton this weekend.  We had some valuable testing during the break which allowed us to try a range of different setup options we wanted to look at.  It will stand us in very good stead when we hit the track at Snetterton and I think we can show some really good pace there.  I know all the other drivers and teams in the championship have been working hard too and given how close it was in the first half of the season, and during summer testing, I think it will be a pretty level playing field this weekend.  With so many people capable of scoring wins this season it's hard to just be in the mix, but as a driver that's the kind of challenge you really enjoy testing yourself against.  I'm really up for the second half of the season as I think I should be a little bit higher in the championship standings than I am just now.  I feel a win is on the cards for me soon though, and I will be pushing as hard as possible to get on the podium in every race."
