motorbase paints the town...

June 18th 2009

Rob Collard, Jonny Adam, Michael Caine and Ollie JacksonMotorbase Performance's star racing drivers got a chance to brush up on their painting and decorating skills when the team paid a visit to the head office of global paints and coatings manufacturer PPG Architectural Coatings EMEA prior to their outing at Croft.

Rob Collard, Jonny Adam, Michael Caine and Ollie Jackson enjoyed the colourful visit as part of a special 'meet the team' day held to celebrate the prestigious partnership with PPG's popular paint brand Leyland Trade, which is an official sponsor of Motorbase Performance's Airwaves BMW British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and Porsche Carrera Cup GB teams for the 2009 season.

Providing staff and their families with the chance to get up close and personal with the drivers and take a look at the team's spectacular cars, the event also helped raise over £500 for Help For Heroes, Leyland Trade's nominated charity.  On hand to bring a touch of glamour was one of the Leyland Lovelies, the paint brand's stunning mascots who also act as official grid girls for the team during all BTCC races.

The lucrative sponsorship deal sees local brand Leyland Paints' name on all of the cars, transporters, drivers' protective and team clothing, as well as throughout the team's position in the pit lane.  Leyland officially unveiled the partnership in March at the BTCC's media day at Rockingham race circuit in Northamptonshire where the national and motorsport press joined over 1500 fans to see the cars, sponsors and driver line-ups for the first time ahead of the curtain raiser at Brands Hatch.

Jonny Adam, Rob CollardMotorbase Performance team principal David Bartrum said:
"It was great to go along to Leyland HQ and see what one of our most important sponsors gets up to on a daily basis.  The team at Leyland Paints has been so enthusiastic and supportive of the whole team this season, and they've really contributed to the great atmosphere in the Motorbase camp.  Hopefully our visit gave all the Leyland employees a taste of what the BTCC and the Porsche Carrera Cup is all about and they will join us at one of the remaining championship rounds coming up after the summer break."

Leyland Trade brand manager Nicola Hickman said:
"We are very grateful that the team could come along to our Birstall offices as it was great for the rest of the PPG team to be able to see what Leyland Trade has been up to!  Everyone really enjoyed the chance to see the cars and talk to the drivers and thanks to all those who took part in the raffle, we have been able to raise much-needed funds for Help for Heroes.  Leyland Trade has been supporting the charity for several months now and thanks to other initiatives such as the creation of the 2009 Leyland Lovelies calendar, we are delighted that so far we have generated over £3,400 in fundraising."

Greg Molyneux, PPG Architectural Coatings UK & Ireland managing director said:
"The 'meet the team' day was a great way to showcase Leyland's prestigious sponsorship deal, which marks another milestone in the strategic marketing campaign undertaken by Leyland in the past 12 months.  This has seen Leyland Paints strengthen its marketing team, introduce a new colour card, launch an exciting new website and unveil its annual Leyland Karting Championship.  The exposure and coverage secured as part of the new sponsorship deal will ensure that Leyland's brand ethos of delivering honest, trusted and reliable products reaches a wider audience."
