Ollie Jackson - Motorbase Driver of the Year

December 8th 2009

After his first season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ollie Jackson was declared the Motorbase team 'driver of the year'. Having collected the trophy and cheque for finishing third in the pro-am1 category during the annual Porsche awards night, Ollie returned to the stage to collect the Motorbase award. On hand for the presentation was team boss David Bartrum and the legend that is Tim Harvey.

Michael Caine, Ollie Jackson, David Bartrum"Ollie has been my star driver of the season," said Bartrum. From a Porsche rookie at the start of the year, Jackson made tremendous progress to become a pro-am1 front-runner and his first pro-am1 victory at Rockingham was a richly deserved result. "It was good to finally get the first pro-am1 win; I really enjoyed that," said Ollie. He was the only driver in the Carrera Cup to score points in each of the 20 races and he ended the season third in pro-am1 and seventh overall in the points' tables.

"It was a superb season; a real experience and it went fantastically well," said Jackson as he reflected on the year. "At the top of my expectations, this is where I hoped to be, but I didn't really expect to achieve what I have done."

David Bartrum, Ollie Jackson, Tim HarveyOllie says that the support of the entire Motorbase crew was central to his development as a racing driver, and that Michael Caine and Patrick de Groot in particular had been key to his success. "All credit to the guys in the team," he said. "I couldn't have done it without the help of Patrick and Michael and the guys who gave me a perfect car every weekend. I had every advantage. Michael was my benchmark and he gave me every help. He never held anything back and was always honest and straightforward. He's been the perfect tutor, especially for these cars. Patrick was always at the top of the game in terms of car set-up."

After racing Caterhams, it was a massive step up to the 420bhp Porsche 911GT3 Cup car. "The Porsche needs a level of discipline that I would never have imagined. Usually I get to the end of the racing season and I'm starting to feel I've had enough and could do with a few weekends off. But I could quite happily race the Porsche all the way through the winter."

Looking ahead, Ollie clearly wants another season at Motorbase to capitalise on the experience gained in 2009 and a major assault on the pro-am1 category is his prime target. "It all looks good for 2010 and another good year," he said. "I want to do quite a bit of testing over the winter to keep my hand in."
