Porsche Carrera Cup GB
Brands Hatch
Race Report

Ollie JacksonOllie Jackson was the star of the weekend for the Motorbase Performance squad in the final two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch over the weekend (3/4 October).

Ollie JacksonThe team again fielded three cars as Steve Parish continued in the pro-am2 category alongside Michael Caine (pro) and Jackson (pro-am1) at the team's home track. Adding to the challenge for the drivers was the fact that the races were on the full Grand Prix circuit, the first time since 2005 that the GP circuit has been used for such an event. With a record 27-car field, the Porsche grid was the biggest of the weekend.

Caine headed the trio in qualifying, but Jackson was only a quarter of a second slower after another impressive performance. Caine ended the session with sixth place on the grid for the opening race, while Jackson was eighth and Parish was sixth in the very strong pro-am2 pack.

Ollie JacksonThe 19th race of the season opened Sunday's programme in front of a massive 35,000 crowd and Caine slotted into sixth place as the leading six cars quickly went clear of the rest of the field. However, Caine was sitting on the tail of Tim Harvey and with Harvey still in the running for the title, Caine was reluctant to mount a challenge even though he had good pace and set second fastest race lap.

Jackson was right in the thick of some fierce battling for second in pro-am1 behind Glynn Geddie and eventually took fourth in pro-am1 and tenth overall after a very busy race. Parish had a clean run to take sixth in pro-am2.

Unfortunately, the second race was over for Caine after just two corners when a knock with Robert Lawson on the exit of Druids sent his car spinning backwards into the tyre wall and out of the race. "I got a big whack from behind and that was that. It's a sad way to end the season," said Caine.

Ollie JacksonHowever, Jackson was again delivering a fine performance and fended off F3 racer Jake Rosenzweig on his way to securing seventh overall and third in pro-am1 behind Geddie and Lawson. The race was red-flagged after 14 laps when pro-am1 contenders Derek Pierce and Tony Gilham spun off at Hawthorns, just ahead of Jackson. "That makes it a 100% finishing record this season," said Jackson. "That's the first time I've ever done that."

Ollie JacksonParish also had a good race, moving through to fifth in pro-am2 and setting his fastest laps of the weekend as he ran very close to pro-am2 pacesetter Paul Hogarth.

But it was Jackson who could celebrate being the only driver in the championship to have scored a finish in every one of the season's 20 races. "That is a rare achievement in the Carrera Cup GB and for me, Ollie is Motorbase group driver of the year," said a delighted team boss David Bartrum.
