News 2010: Airwaves BMW - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship - Silverstone Pre-race Report

August 17th - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Silverstone (Rounds 19/20/21)
Pre-race Report

Mat JacksonA solid points haul at Snetterton reinstates Steven Kane as the leader of the Independent Drivers and Airwaves BMW the Independent Teams standings. This weekend, Northampton's Silverstone circuit will play host to rounds 19/20/21 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship; the outcome of which could dictate where this year's top honours are heading.

Mat Jackson has a history of success on the high-speed, 1.64 mile National circuit. Hot on the heels of Kane and third in the Independent Drivers standings, the Warwickshire lad will return to this, his local track having won here in 2008 and memorably as a double race winner in 2009. With Jackson's second-place finish in the previous round at Snetterton only two weeks ago momentum is with the 'Fans' Favourite', quite frankly who would doubt him to do well this coming weekend.

Mat JacksonKane will look to build on his and Airwaves BMW's lead in the Independent standings; and with a typical smile and speeds well in excess of 130mph you can be sure the Ulsterman will aim to keep his nose in front and dazzle the huge British crowd who will line the circuit.

With both drivers confident in their race-cars, be in no doubt that this weekends three races could shape the direction of the championship.

With 190 points Airwaves BMW need to continue the trend of winning races, and with Kane's knowledge and experience here airwaves BMW are ready and willing to take on all comers, including those driving oval badged, LPG rocket-ships!

ITV4's live coverage from Silverstone is scheduled between 11.00am-6.00pm on Sunday 22th August. Driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on

Airwaves BMW Team driver Steven Kane said:
"Silverstone is a good circuit and as I live in Brixworth it's also my local track. There should be some interesting new challenges with the resurfaced National Straight, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the car feels. In 2008 I did well here, coming from last to fifth, so overtaking can be done, even if there are only three or four corners to do it. It guarantees close racing so it will be fascinating to see how the LPG powered Fords shape up. I've had success here in Ferraris, Porsches and I've tested McLaren's F1 car so I know the track well and I'm up for it."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Mat Jackson said:
"I had a really good run here last year, and I think the team are in a good spot going in to the weekend. Motorbase did well here in 2009 and with our progress over the summer break it looks like it could be interesting. Although the LPGs and Chevys have something we don't - that much is obvious - we have a car that can go round corners and that will make things pretty close and exciting even if Silverstone is a power circuit. In my honest opinion I think we're in great shape and in a great car."

Airwaves BMW Team Manager Oliver Collins said:
"We're looking forward to Silverstone. We had a good showing at Snetterton, albeit 'best of the rest' behind the Chevrolet & Focus turbos, which quite frankly were in a different league to everything else on track. We went well at Silverstone last year so hopefully what we learnt will carry over to this year. Airwaves BMW have progressed as a team this year and we hope to be fighting for overall honours come Sunday. It will depend on how fast the Chevrolet and Focus is in a straight-line as Silverstone has three long straights."
