News 2010: Airwaves BMW - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship - Snetterton Pre-race Report

August 4th - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Snetterton (Rounds 16/17/18)
Pre-race Report

Steven KaneIt's time to put down the Pimms, and hang that god-awful Hawaiian shirt back up because, after a seven week break, Independent Team leaders Airwaves BMW return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship as Norfolk's Snetterton Circuit plays home to rounds 16, 17 and 18. Halfway through the current season we've already had nine different winners from fifteen race starts; both Airwaves BMW drivers make up the numbers.

Although Croft is a distant memory now, Steven Kane's magnificent drive from 19th to 3rd will live on in the memory of touring car fans, while Mat Jackson, who put on a similarly dazzling display, is hopeful that his run of bad luck is behind him, having been forced to retire on a number of occasions through no fault of his own so far this season.

Mat JacksonSnetterton, an old RAF airfield, is one of the fastest tracks on the BTCC calendar but, after the recent official test day, the team are confident the knowledge gained can be translated in to points and podiums, kicked off by a more influential qualifying position.

Snetterton also holds some marvellous memories for both Airwaves BMW drivers. In 2009, Jackson grabbed a deserved podium, while Kane, who spent a great deal of time here last year testing in Formula 2, achieved a similar podium finish the last time he was out in the BTCC in 2008. Both drivers are huge fans of the circuit.

With the Airwaves BMWs fighting to regain the Teams' and retain the Independents' Championships, heart-in-mouth racing and hold-your-nerve braking will be the order of the day.

ITV4's live coverage from Snetterton is scheduled between 11.00am-6.00pm on Sunday 8th August. Driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on

Airwaves BMW Team driver Steven Kane said:
"I love Snetterton and I've spent a great deal of time there testing in Formula 2. A s a race track, with the new, higher curbs it has changed a bit, but that should only encourage more exciting racing for the fans. On the straight we'll have a tough job keeping up with the LPG powered Fords but the Airwaves BMW is a great race car so over the distance it's anyone's guess who'll win. I think the car and I are capable of podiums in every race."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Mat Jackson said:
"It's going to be tough that's for sure but we have a car and over a race distance we're one of the quickest on the grid. In a straight line there's not a lot we can do against some of the other cars, but through the corners and come the final few laps of each race we'll have the advantage. A good qualifying position will make life much easier so if we can get up the front, we can win races at Snetterton."

Airwaves BMW Team Manager Oliver Collins said:
"I'm looking forward to Snetterton, it marks the start of the second half of the season and it's the time which we have to deliver some really strong results. Both drivers are capable of winning outright and that's what we'll be aiming for. We had a positive test here during the summer break and hopefully we can put what we learnt into qualifying and start the weekend as we mean to go on. We've had a long break and the whole team is just happy to go racing again."
