News 2010: Airwaves BMW and HiQ Teams Championship Leaders Head to Oulton Park

May 28th - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Oulton Park (Rounds 10/11/12)
Event Preview

Airwaves BMWAfter a month of inactivity it's time to buckle up once again. Perched on top of the HiQ Teams Championship, Airwaves BMW returns to Oulton Park for the fourth episode of an already thrilling 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship - the team hopeful they can remain in this envious position, as they have done since the very first day of the season.

During the last round at their local track Brands Hatch, Airwaves BMW star Mat Jackson systematically picked his way through the field, dazzled the packed grand stand and thanks to pure determination and an abundance of talent moved from 11th on the starting grid to 1st. The Warwickshire man was simply untouchable.

Mat JacksonSteven Kane, who has certainly lived up to the teams high expectations showed his competitive edge and pushed his BMW to its limit. The Northern Irish driver can be proud of his fourth podium of the season and the vital championship points received for his 3rd place finish at the Kent circuit.

Thanks to the commitment and skill of both drivers, Airwaves BMW left Brands Hatch in 1st place in both the HiQ Teams and Independents Championships, while their Porsche team are also on top of their respective championship. This is an unprecedented position and makes the three rounds at Outlon Park next weekend all the more important and something to savour.

The drama, and that we can be sure of, will continue in just over a weeks time on the weekend of the 5-6th of June. With new restrictions applied to the Fords the even keel of cars and drivers should make the event a true spectacle; with hot weather and huge crowds predicted (2008 saw 35,000 fans descend) this is one day on the BTCC calendar you simply cannot afford to miss.

Oulton ParkWith Jackson currently in 5th and Kane in 3rd in the overall BTCC Driver Standings, the picturesque track is beset with hidden crests, notorious corners such as Knickerbrook and straights that encourage late braking. Mat Jackson holds the current BTCC lap record at Oulton of 1.28.106, which he will surely look to better.

At this stage of the season we can be sure that not a single driver on the BTCC grid will give an inch, so make sure you've got plenty of finger nails left, you'll need them.
ITV4's live coverage from Oulton Park is scheduled between 11.00am-6.00pm on Sunday 6th June. Driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on

Airwaves BMW Team driver Steven Kane said:
"I always look forward to Oulton Park, it is a highlight on the BTCC calendar. If the weather is warm, and it should be in June we should get some decent temperature in the tyres and more quickly too, that suits us and the Airwaves BMW. After the long break I couldn't be more raring to go, I'm hungry and fresh and after the podium in my last race result I'm confident too."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Mat Jackson said:
"I think the break has been good for me and the team, we've had time to reflect and look at the car without the pressure of an imminent race. Oulton Park has been good to the team over the years, we won our first touring car race here and I hold the lap record. If it stays dry and warm then the BMW will do well. We are in a great position coming into the race and we need to kick up a gear, capitalise on the opportunity and bring home podiums in every race."

Airwaves BMW Team Manager Oliver Collins said:
"We're looking forward to getting back on track and kicking up a gear after our break away from the track. Oulton Park is a fantastic venue for the BTCC, one which we hope to come away from smiling next weekend. The team have been working hard behind the scenes and are all just happy to be back on track!"
