News 2010: Airwaves BMW Return to Local Track Brands Hatch as HiQ Teams Championship Leaders

April 28th - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Brands Hatch (Rounds 7/8/9)
Event Preview

Leyland Lovely SophieLocal heroes and Airwaves BMW return to Brands Hatch this weekend for the third instalment of the exhilarating 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The team, currently placed first in both the HiQ Teams and Independent Championship title races have a great deal of experience at the 2.3 mile Kent based GP track; the team are based just a stone's throw from the world-famous circuit.

Airwaves BMW drivers Steve Kane and Mat Jackson will both relish the chance to add points and podiums to their tallies in front of some 30,000 expectant home fans.

Kane, who lies in third place in the BTCC Drivers Championship and second in the Independents' Trophy, has already had a wonder start to the season - a win at Thruxton and two more podium finishes last weekend at Rockingham.

Steven KaneMat Jackson has also stepped onto the podium three times this season and sits just behind Kane in the Independents' Trophy in third, and sixth in the Drivers' Championship. He will be hoping to capitalise on his past experiences at the track; it was here where the Warwickshire man made his BTCC debut and who could forget his two BTCC race wins in 2008.

The Brands hatch Grand Prix circuit is well known to motorsport fans; over the years it has played host to the biggest names in Motorsport and this weekend will be no different. From the high speed Brabham straight through to the perilous Paddock Hill bend and highly contested Surtees turn fans of high intensity, mirror to mirror, touring car racing will be in their element.

With strong challenges from Plato, Neal and Collard expected, the Wrotham based team know only too well how important Sunday's three races will be for the continued title challenge. To maintain their deserved lead both Jackson and Kane will have to repeat the fine form that has put both Airwaves BMW drivers in the race for the Drivers' Championship.

Team Prepares CarMotorbase Performance will also be hoping for another flurry of fantastic results in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Currently Michael Caine sits in second position in the Pro classification with 73 points. He, alongside drivers such as Ollie Jackson, Steve Parish and Charles Bateman, will be hoping to continue their impressive start to the season after leading the championship following on from Thruxton.

ITV4's live coverage from Brands Hatch is scheduled between 11.00am-6.00pm on Sun 3rd March, while evening highlights begin at 8:30pm. Driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on

Airwaves BMW Team driver Steven Kane said:
"Being the home circuit for Airwaves BMW and the Motorbase Performance team will make the day even more special. In my book the GP circuit at Brands is one of, if not the best circuit in the country. Traditionally we've always been strong there, but we're not going to underestimate the competition. After 18 months out I'm so thrilled at my performance so far, and it would be great to get back on the podium in front of the home fans."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Mat Jackson said:
"Brands Hatch is a good circuit for the BMWs, and in this airwaves race car I think we're in a great position. We'll need to hit the ground running in qualifying as there are not too many opportunities to overtake, but I'm looking forward to the challenge. Being taken out last weekend was frustrating and there were no lessons to be learned, but I can only move forward from that. The GP circuit at Brands has a lot of heritage, and I'd like to make my mark. All I know is that there will be some interesting racing."

Airwaves BMW Team Manager Oliver Collins said:
"We're all really looking forward to Brands as it's our local track. We've had good results there over the years so we'd like to continue that and back up our first two results that have left us at the top of the championship. I'd also like to that both the Porsche and BTCC teams for their tireless work and the long hours. We've had only three days to get eight cars ready since Rockingham and as ever they have been fantastic."
