News 2010: Dunlop MSA BTCC Airwaves BMW - Oulton Park Qualifying Report

June 5th - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Oulton Park
Qualifying Report

Airwaves BMWMat Jackson leads the Airwaves BMW team and will start the first of tomorrow's three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races at Oulton Park in 9th spot after a closely-fought session which saw the top nine drivers separated by just half a second.

Jackson, whose best lap of 1.27.905 will look to continue the form which saw him take his first win of the season during the last round at Brands Hatch's GP circuit and a further result that will keep Airwaves BMW at the top of the HiQ Teams Championship. Having recorded his very first BTCC win here in 2007, the team are hopeful for more wins.

Airwaves BMWSteven Kane, who secured a podium in the very same round, will start tomorrow's race in 11th. Despite struggling with a 27kg ballast and some early traction issues, Kane, just over a second off the day's fastest lap of 1.27.330 set by Onslow-Cole (Sheddon 2nd -1.27.350, Plato in 3rd  -1.27.389), is confident tomorrow will be a different story. "Things started to improve throughout the day and I'm sure when the flag drops tomorrow we'll be right up there and in the mix. I'll fight for it - that you can count on."

Kane, who celebrated his 30th birthday today leads the Airwaves BMW drivers, currently standing in third position in the overall BTCC Driver's Standing on 59 points; Jackson lies in fifth with 53. The Airwaves BMW team, who have led the HiQ Teams Championship since day one at Thruxton, will look to stay where they are, and good results can make sure of that.

ITV4's live coverage from Oulton Park is scheduled between 11.00am-6.00pm on Sunday 6th June. Driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on

Airwaves BMW Team driver Mat Jackson said:
"It's a good race car and over a distance it's easily one of the strongest in the BTCC. The lap times today were all very close and in fairness the traffic today didn't do us any favours, but i had a little more to give. It's very much a driver's circuit and I love driving here, so lets hope the rain stays away and I can kick up a gear and get some solid points."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Steven Kane said:
"It was a tough day and a tough test, qualifying went a little better than free practice so we're going in the right direction. I'm not really used to driving with extra weight (27kg ballast) and I got a little unlucky with my qualifying laps. On paper we may not have been the fastest, but I'm pretty pleased with our progression and tomorrow I'm hoping to take that to the next level."

Airwaves BMW Team Manager Oliver Collins said:
"Today was a little disappointing after our pace earlier in the day, it just didn't quite happen for us in Qualifying. Tomorrow is another day and we feel sure we have good race pace in the BMW. "
