News 2010: Motorbase Performance Renews Commitment to Carrera Cup GB

November 9th

Motorbase Performance Renews Commitment to Carrera Cup GBWith five months yet to go before the start of the 2011 racing season, Motorbase Performance has already been able to confirm that it will have a major presence in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Although the final driver line-up is still under discussion, team boss David Bartrum reports that Motorbase will be defending its 2010 team title with a multi-car squad as the Carrera Cup moves to the latest model 911GT3 Cup car.

In 2010, Motorbase set new records by fielding a six-car team, representing the biggest team ever entered in the eight-year history of the Carrera Cup GB. The tally for the season was the team title, the pro-am1 title, runner-up in the overall title and third in pro-am2. Motorbase drivers scored 22 wins across the three classes and took a record-breaking podium clean sweep at Donington Park in September when Michael Caine, Ollie Jackson and George Richardson all won their respective categories.

But before the end of the 2010 season, Bartrum was busy working on plans for 2011. With the Carrera Cup GB riding high through 2010, there was tremendous demand for new cars, both from existing teams and from new teams seeking to join the Carrera Cup. With only 30 new cars available for the coming season, the demand outstripped supply and it was in the first week of November that teams knew if they had been allocated cars.

"It was a much anticipated announcement," said Bartrum. "Porsche always features strongly in the plans for Motorbase and I'm pleased to say that Porsche has looked after us in the allocation of cars. We have two cars for the team and will also be looking after cars for several customers, so we will certainly be running a multi-car team. We're talking to our drivers from 2010 and some are already confirmed as staying. But we also have a number of new drivers talking to us about Porsche as well.

"It's brilliant news that there is such a high level of interest in the Carrera Cup and we will certainly be there with a strong team. I love being involved in the Carrera Cup, which we have done since we created the Motorbase team, and I really want to defend our team title as well as go for the overall drivers' title. That one has eluded us so far, so it would be fantastic to add it to our Carrera Cup record.

"I think Marion Barnaby and everyone at Porsche has done a great job to build the Carrera Cup into such a successful championship. It's going to be even more competitive than ever next year and we're looking forward to taking on old rivals as well as some new ones!"
