News 2010: Charlie Bateman Stars at Knockhill

September 7th

Charles BatemanWith top six times in qualifying, fourth and third place in the races and the 'driver of the weekend' award from Porsche, it was a great weekend at Knockhill (4/5 September) for Charlie Bateman.

In what was his best weekend to date with Motorbase Performance, Bateman was on it from the start at one of his favourite tracks on the schedule. Although Charlie had a big accident at Knockhill in 2008, the challenging Scottish track still rates as a real favourite for the Boston-based racer.

"We actually did a proper qualifying session and top six is where we've always aimed to be in qualifying. It was a great weekend. The first race could have been better but we had a problem with the car going off towards the end of the race," said Bateman.

"Race two was spot on and the car was fantastic. When Harvey, Geddie and Jelley went off, that was a bit of a godsend, but I was second at the re-start. I was caught a bit unawares at the re-start. Then Hankey managed to get through and once he went ahead I was chasing him. We had the pace and had a great battle with Euan. It was close but it was fair racing. It's good for Henderson Insurance and good for Pilgrim Food Service.

"It's really good that Motorbase had four drivers on the podium and getting 'driver of the weekend' just tops it off. Plus, the £500 prize helps because that comes to me. The team's not getting that!

"Before Knockhill we'd had some bad qualifying sessions and some bad luck in the races. We had a cracking weekend at Oulton Park, but since then it's not gone so well. Hopefully we'll now have a strong finish to the season."
