News 2010: Falling into Place for Airwaves BMW

April 1st - Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Thruxton (Rounds 1/2/3)
Event Preview

Airwaves BMWEaster weekend signals the return of Airwaves BMW to the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. After a tumultuous pre-season the team have a genuine point to prove and are serious contenders for the championship, boasting the finest driver line-up ever fielded by the Motorbase Performance team.

Airwaves BMW's confirmed 'Fans' Favourite' Mat Jackson and Irishman Steven Kane will pilot the face-lifted BMWs, now draped in colourful Leyland Paint and The Money Shop graphics. Both Jackson and Kane have a history of driving these German saloons rather quickly, with Jackson winning two races at the UK's fastest circuit over the last three seasons, not to mention his unbeaten 'eight-straight' podium finishes in the 2009 season - a BTCC record.

Mat JacksonReturning to the BTCC for his second season Steven Kane is also no stranger to the Hampshire race track. In 2007 the Irishman secured victories in all four Porsche Carrera Cup rounds, while in 2008 he achieved 15 top ten finishes and three podium spots in his debut season in the BTCC. Word has it that the Ulsterman also secured the fastest time of any BMW in his 320si at Brands Hatch's annual media day only last week.

With 23 cars confirmed on the grid from seven different manufacturers, the UK's most distinguished motor racing championship will be toughly contested over the first three rounds at Thruxton. Moreover with last year's Champion Colin Turkington missing from the starting line-up, the 2010 season presents no certainties - except one: Airwaves BMW will kick up a gear and fight tooth and nail for the title.

Race day will be covered live on ITV4 (11am-6pm), while driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on

Mat Jackson and Steven KaneAirwaves BMW Team Principal David Bartrum said:
"It's been a tough winter so getting back out there is something the whole team cannot wait for. Thruxton is notoriously difficult for BMWs but I'm hopeful we can bring home good solid points in every round. To challenge and win the championship, it's important we get on the scorecard early. Both Steven and Mat performed well in testing and I have faith in the pair of them. We'll have to see how the weather plays out but a spot of rain could be a positive - we'll just have to wait and see."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Steven Kane said:
"Joining the Airwaves BMW team has happened so quickly which makes this first race all the more exciting. The test day at Brands last week was my chance to get to grips with the car and the new tyres. After 18 months racing in single-seaters, I wasn't sure how it would go but straight away I felt how far the team and car have come. That was reflected in my lap times, fastest in the morning session and third fastest overall. Thruxton is a fast circuit and I've won a lot of races there over the years. I'm confident I can bring some points home for the Airwaves BMW team because winning the championship is the main goal."

Airwaves BMW Team driver Mat Jackson said:
"It's great to be back in a BMW again and I can't wait for Thruxton. I've done well there and won quite a few races over the years so I'd love to build on that. It's great to be working with the Airwave BMW team and I know I can kick up a gear and score some early points. This weekend's races could be a huge step toward claiming the championship."
