News 2010: Richardson Doubles Up at Donington

September 27th - Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain

George RichardsonIn what was the most successful weekend for one team in the history of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, George Richardson had his best season so far with a double pro-am2 win after taking both category poles.

The Motorbase Performance weekend haul was five poles from six, five wins from six, the 'driver of the weekend' award and the 'team of the weekend' award. In overall terms, Michael Caine dominated the racing to trim another eight points from Tim Harvey's title lead, while Ollie Jackson moved very close to settling the pro-am1 title. In the team championship, Motorbase turned an eight-point deficit into a four-point lead over Red Line Racing and Richardson kept himself in the pro-am2 title race with just two races left to run.

For Richardson, it marked his first pro-am2 victories of the season as he dominated the category right from the start of qualifying. "It's been a fantastic weekend and I'm very happy with the way it went," said Richardson after his second win of the day.

Motorbase Performance"There was a lot of pressure. It's a different type of pressure when you qualify at the front of your class and it was another step in my learning curve," said Richardson. His run to victory in the first race was made easier when title rivals Glenn McMenamin and George Brewster touched as they raced down the Craner Curves in pursuit of Richardson. McMenamin spun into the gravel and out of the race, while Brewster had to pit for a wheel change after collecting a puncture.

However, in race two, Richardson had to withstand race-long pressure from Brewster as McMenamin ran close behind in third. "I handled the pressure quite well until I started seeing George Brewster in my mirrors in the second race and I had a bit of a tankslapper going up to Coppice. That was a bit scary," said Richardson.

George was quick to praise the Motorbase team. "It's testament to the whole team; they've all worked very hard over long hours, so I owe a big thank you to them and my sponsors Henderson Insurance and the Adroit Group for supporting us this weekend. Michael Caine helps every weekend and he really wants the younger drivers at Motorbase to eventually beat him, which is a great thing. Hopefully the people in pro-am1 and pro-am2 are the future of Carrera Cup and its good for them to come through."

Now, the season will conclude at Brands Hatch with four drivers chasing the pro-am2 title. The advantage remains with Brewster and McMenamin, but Richardson is riding high right now. "The title race is not over yet and now we head to my favourite track at Brands Hatch and the home track of Motorbase, so I'll be in trouble if I don't win there."
