Caine Set for Porsche Carrera Cup GB Title Bid

Michael Caine is determined to make 2011 his season for title glory in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, after confirming plans to continue his successful partnership with Motorbase Performance.
Caine, who is due to become a father for the first time in May, says that he really wants to make 2011 his season having missed the 2010 title by just 10 points after scoring seven race wins with Motorbase. "Every year it gets closer and closer to my last year of racing, so I've got to win it this year," said the car salesman from Newmarket. "This is going to be a very busy year for me!"
Caine joined the Carrera Cup in 2006 with Motorbase and then spent two seasons with Team Parker Racing before rejoining Motorbase at the start of the 2009 season. The coming season will be his fourth with Motorbase and he has scored a total of 14 wins and 55 podiums from 100 Carrera Cup race starts.
Caine says that having current champion Tim Harvey join the Motorbase team for 2011 will strengthen the team's programme. "I think the new Carrera Cup car will be amazing and one of the benefits of having Tim as a team mate is that we'll get on top of the car faster with both of us driving it. But I have to beat all the cars on the grid, whether they are team mates or not."
Caine believes it is a real achievement for Motorbase that Harvey is to rejoin the team. "It's very good for the team that the reigning Carrera Cup champion wants to join Motorbase. It's a big pat on the back for everyone in the team. Motorbase goes racing as a team and everyone is included. This also puts us in a strong position to retain the Team Championship."
Caine will be racing the latest model 450-bhp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and will have a first major test session at the championship pre-season test and media day at Snetterton on 22 March. The first two races of the season will be at Brands Hatch on 2/3 April.
