News 2011: Mat Jackson & Liam Griffin for Airwaves Racing

January 12th

Mat Jackson

Airwaves Racing are pleased to announce that Mat Jackson will remain with the team for 2011, whilst the team target outright glory with their new Ford's in the BTCC. Airwaves have recently made the jump from their BMW's to the Mountune powered NGTC engined Ford Focuses as well as increasing the squad to 3 BTCC cars.

Mat Jackson, who has Ford links with family run business being Jackson Ford a Ford retail dealer, is keen to get his teeth into the new car 'This is a deal I've spent a long time looking at and to me it makes very good sense. This time we've got everything sorted early, know exactly where we need to focus our energies and therefore have a great opportunity to hit the ground running come round one at Brands Hatch.'

Liam GriffinLiam Griffin will also join the team in a Focus for 2011. Liam has been with Motorbase Performance since 2009, competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup and will be making his BTCC debut in April.

Liam has enjoyed successful front wheel drive experience in the past and is looking forward to the transition back again. 'Before Porsches I raced in the VW Cup and seemed to get on better with a front-wheel-drive car which is what I'm going back to now. The Porsche season was still beneficial as I learnt the circuits and what racing on a BTCC weekend is all about. Also if I didn't have the confidence in David and the team of people at Motorbase I might not have gone for it – it is a major step up'.

David Bartrum, Airwaves Racing Team Principal is very pleased with how his 2011 plans are going, '2011 is a very important year for Motorbase Performance. I'm delighted to retain Mat who is a very strong driver both on and off the track and knows the team well. He's an extremely talented driver and he works hard. It will be a year of learning for Liam, but he'll have plenty of support from an experienced team. He had a good season with us in the Porsches last year and it's great that he's able to make the step up to the BTCC.

Motorbase Performance will continue to compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2011 with details to be announced soon.
