News 2012: Motorbase adds Stephen Jelley to British GT line-up

June 6th

Stephen Jelley

Motorbase Performance is delighted to announce that British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and Porsche Carrera Cup GB front-runner Stephen Jelley will be joining Steve Parish for round three of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 9/10th June 2012.

Jelley will take the seat previously occupied by Nick Tandy, partnering Parish in the #10 Porsche 911 GT3R for British GT's two-hour race at the Northamptonshire circuit. Although it is initially a one round deal, there is scope for Jelley to partner Parish for further outings during the rest of the season.

Former BTCC race winner Jelley – who enjoyed a successful single-seater career before switching to tin tops – is certainly no stranger to racing Porsches. The 30-year-old finished third in the 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup GB and has raced cars by the famous German marque in the Porsche Carrera World Cup and a one-off appearance in the 2010 British GT Championship.

Jelley will be hoping to assist Parish's ascent up the championship standings, as the Crystal Palace chairman climbed to eighth overall after securing a solid fourth place last time out at Germany's renowned Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit.

"It's fantastic to be joining Motorbase Performance and the British GT Championship at Rockingham, a place where I've won races in the BTCC," commented Jelley. "The Porsche 911 GT3R is a great car that I have a lot of experience with, and Steve is a great driver partner as his form is getting stronger with every race.

"At the moment Rockingham is a toe in the water exercise, but hopefully it will lead to further races during the season."

Motorbase Performance Team Principal David Bartrum added: "We're delighted that Stephen is joining the team at Rockingham. Nick made a good start to the year in the number #10 car and it's great to have another driver with extensive Porsche experience to carry on the hard work. I think 'the two Steve's' will work well together and hopefully we can look forward to some great results!"

As in previous rounds, Motorbase Performance's #11 Porsche 911 GT3R will be piloted by Michael Caine and Daniele Perfetti, who lie joint third in the championship standings.
