News 2013: Airwaves Racing Revved up for Rockingham

September 10th

Jackson expects to be challenging for podiums this weekend

Airwaves Racing has set its sights firmly on closing the gap in the independents standings as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship reconvenes at Northampton's Rockingham Speedway circuit this coming weekend (14/15 September).

The Airwaves Racing squad heads to the unique Rockingham circuit in a buoyant mood off the back of two successful rounds at Knockhill and Snetterton that saw the Motorbase-run outfit unlock the potential and pace of the Mountune-powered Ford Focus NGTC's that had proved elusive during the championships early rounds.

Airwaves Racing now hopes to build on its recent momentum as it arrives in Northamptonshire for the eighth meeting of the season.  With a renewed focus, the squad is revved up for a resilient performance and aiming to secure additional podiums to further its 2013 campaign as the championship enters its final stages.

This weekend's action is also pivotal for the Addison Lee Motorbase squad with Liam Griffin needing to secure race wins to keep his Jack Sears Trophy title challenge hopes alive. Griffin is eager to capitalise on his successes at Knockhill last month that saw the 40 year celebrate a return to form; collecting two class wins to edge closer to JST leader Lea Wood in the championship standings.

Smith looking to lead again at RockinghamRound 8 of the 2013 season takes place at Rockingham circuit on September 14/15.  Live coverage of Sunday's events will be shown on ITV4, and also in HD from 10.45am – 6pm; with featuring live streaming online of Saturday's qualifying session between 3.40 and 4.10pm.

Motorbase Performance Team Manager Oly Collins said:
"We're going to Rockingham in a confident mood. We have some good data from last year to complement what we've learnt throughout this season. Both Mat and Aron have shown some great pace recently, at Snetterton in particular, and we expect the Focus to be strong this weekend.

"Liam had a great meeting at Knockhill and he's keen to close the gap on Lea in the Jack Sears Trophy. So we're aiming for podiums and wins in the final three rounds of 2013."

Griffin eager for races win to challenge for Jack Sears Trophy title

Airwaves Racing driver Mat Jackson said:
"Rockingham should suit the Ford Focus NGTC chassis much better this weekend. With the faster corners, we should be back challenging for podium positions again.

"The car proved to be quick at the Northamptonshire track - and we are hoping to improve on the pace that we showed there last year."

Airwaves Racing driver Aron Smith said:
"After leading my first ever BTCC race at Rockingham last season I'm certainly returning with fond memories!

"Rockingham is more of a conventional racing circuit as opposed to Knockhill which I know will suit our car down to the ground. We saw how strong the car could be at Snetterton which as a circuit isn't too dissimilar from Rockingham, so hopefully we'll be back fighting at the sharp end this weekend."

Addison Lee Motorbase driver Liam Griffin said:
"Following the birth of my 3rd son I feel like I need to win all three races this weekend so he doesn't feel left out!

"I've not raced at Rockingham for a couple of years but the S2000 Focus is not bad round there and I know I need to win at least one race this weekend to keep the Jack Sears Trophy title fight alive!"
