Motorbase Performance would like to pay tribute to 'star tyre man' and close friend of the team Tony Leake.

Dunlop Motorsport announced today (Monday 4th March 2013) that Tony, a key figure in the company's racing history and success, passed away on Tuesday 26th February. Tony had bravely battled with cancer for many years, but had not let this affect his workload, passion and dedication for the company and the sport. He was 68 years old.

Tony had managed and led many of the company's Motorsport programmes since the 1970s. In 2003, he was appointed as  Dunlop's British Touring Car Championship co-ordinator and chief technician.

Tony was well known to Motorbase and had been part of Team Boss David Bartrum's racing career for many years and is remembered fondly; "Tony had been involved in my racing career right from the very start, as far back as the old Group N days and we were delighted to have him back working alongside us as our 'star tyre man' when we joined the BTCC.

"Tony had a wicked sense of humour and it was an honour to have known him. We shall all miss him deeply. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Tony's wife Jenny and his family."

Tony's funeral will be on Tuesday 12th March 2013 at 1pm at Woodlands Crematorium, Birmingham Road, Coleshill followed by a celebration of his life at Mackadown Sports & Social Club, 240 Mackadown Lane, Birmingham, B33 0JG.

Jenny has invited all of Tony's many friends from the racing world to attend.
