Motorbase Performance claims maiden BTCC pole at Rockingham

Jackson secures maiden BTCC pole for Motorbase at Rockingham

Motorbase Performance celebrated its maiden Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship pole position in style today (September 5th) with a commanding drive from Mat Jackson at Rockingham Speedway.

Having topped the timing screens for the latter part of the session, the team's long-awaited qualifying pole was almost thwarted in the closing minutes when a late red flag added crucial minutes to the clock in a near replication of Knockhill. Thankfully Jackson managed to retain the top spot this time out to set a new qualifying lap record of 1:22:087 in the #4 mountune-powered Ford Focus ST.

Claiming his first qualifying pole since 2009, an elated Mat Jackson said: "A fantastic result for us today and we're starting from the best place possible tomorrow. The red flag toward the end of qualifying added another five minutes to the clock and it was a bit of deja-vu after challenging for pole at the last two rounds so this really means lot to us.

Jackson also set a new qualifying lap record in the #4 Ford Focus ST"We've been trying to achieve this together now for five and a bit years so it's very special and great that all of the hard work has finally come to fruition. Hopefully we can use our first ever qualifying pole to take our first outright win of 2015 tomorrow."

David Bartrum, Motorbase Performance Team Principal added; "Today has been a very special day for Motorbase. I thought at Knockhill that we had pole and it disappeared off the timing screens before my very eyes, so today I've been that bit more apprehensive! I'm over the moon for everybody at Motorbase as obviously it's our first Saturday pole; it was a great effort from Mat and it's a great testament for the whole team that coming back to the championship was worthwhile."

"We're working on a very tight budget at the minute and it's a very close knit crew, so it's a fantastic reward for everyone for the work we've done developing the car, the work that mountune have done with the new engine and for all of the people that have been involved with the team behind the scenes;" added Bartrum.

"We wouldn't be here today without Chas Cole and Drivecool, John Amey at Castledene, Bob Elkin at FWS, Simon Knight at Burts and Tom at Jarrett Plumbing and Heating. It's all those people, along with a long list of others that have made this possible and tomorrow we need to convert it into silverware.

"Tomorrow will be difficult; there are some very fast boys around us but I'm really looking forward it. I shall be like a big kid waiting for Christmas day tonight!"
