Motorbase Performance dominates BTCC season finale at Brands Hatch

Motorbase Performance celebrated its most successful race weekend to date, taking two race wins and a second place finish with a dominate performance during the 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season finale on its home circuit  this weekend (October 10/11).

Mat Jackson was unstoppable on the iconic GP loop, opening the season closer with a commanding qualifying performance to claim his third successive pole and another new lap record before going on to claim two outright race wins and a second placed finish during the final three races of 2015.

Coming so close to securing a dream trio of results on the Wrotham-based squad's local circuit, Jackson's sensational performance also sees him claim the incredible accolade of achieving the highest number of points scored during a race weekend of the entire 2015 BTCC season.

In a repeat of his Silverstone performance just two weeks ago, Jackson was once again on top form during Sunday's opening race. Starting ballast-free from pole, the 34-year-old controlled the safety-car beset race from lights to flag, piloting the #4 mountune-powered Ford Focus ST to its third victory of the season in front of an elated home crowd.

Race 2 proved a tougher challenge for the Motorbase-man. With maximum ballast on-board the #4 Focus and running the soft tyre, Jackson expertly held off charges from the lighter Mercedes and Toyota of Morgan and Ingram, narrowly holding on the race lead to claim his fourth outright and seventh independent race win of the season.

With the overall championship title battle coming down to the final race of the season the #4 Focus was slotted into seventh place on the grid. Another trademark super-fast start from Jackson saw him charge into fourth place before an early safety car appearance on the opening lap.

Moving past Goff and up into third following the brief restart, before yet another period under the safety car, Jackson wowed the crowds as he battled with Neal and Goff for second place. After trading places with the duo as they jostled for position, Jackson executed a sensational move around the outside of both the Honda and MG heading into clearways to claim runners-up honours, with the Ford crossing line in P2, marking the Motorbase Performance team's best-ever weekend of results since its BTCC debut in 2006.

The season finale brought a mixed bag of results for Drivecool ambassador James Cole. Two strong performances in races one and two delivered a pair of twelfth place finishes for the #44 Focus. Unfortunately steering damage sustained during contact on the opening lap of the final race hindered Cole's pace, and the 27-year-old dropped down the order to end the race in P18.

The weekend's results see the Motorbase Performance squad add an impressive collection of new records to its recent successes. Despite only contesting half of the season after returning to the BTCC grid at Snetterton in August, the Kent-based squad has amassed an incredible seven independent race wins, four outright race wins and five further podiums across four race weekends.

Mat Jackson also ends 2015 having led more laps than any other driver this season and with the best qualifying average of the entire grid.

After a difficult start to the racing season Motorbase Performance would like to extend its thanks to the whole team behind the scenes, including its many sponsors, technical partners and loyal fans for their efforts and invaluable support throughout the year.

Quotes:

Motorbase Performance Team Manager Oly Collins;
"That was the perfect way to finish off this year. I think it's fair to say we've shown everyone recently just how competitive we are. The second race win on full success ballast and soft tyres was the most rewarding and proved that we have a complete package that can win this championship given a full season.

"The impeccable reliability record again this year shows the true class of the team behind the scenes and Mat was simply in a league of his own this year. James has progressed well into a regular points scorer and will continue to improve given time I'm sure. Congratulations to Gordon Shedden for the championship win, he was a deserved champ. Hopefully we can take it off him next year!"

#4 Mat Jackson;
"What an incredible weekend to end the season on! Obviously it was an amazing start to grab our third back-to-back pole in qualifying and then to go on to capitalise on that with two race wins and a second was a brilliant result for the team.

"The whole team has been working together so well this season and this weekend was the true reward for everyone involved. Hopefully we can carry this dominance into winter testing and come back next year with a full championship challenge."

#44 James Cole;
"Overall my progression has carried on throughout this weekend. We made a few tweaks after race one that made a big difference to car in race 2 and I think had we found that a couple of rounds ago we would have moved forward even more. Hopefully we can carry that learning forward into next season."
