Motorbase Performance poised for Thruxton thriller

May 3rd 2016

Motorbase is looking to add to its race win tally as the BTCC heads to Thruxton

Motorbase Performance is looking to carry its winning form into this weekend as the Kent-based squad turns its attention to Hampshire's fast and furious Thruxton circuit for rounds 7, 8 & 9 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (May 7/8).

Donington Park supplied non-stop drama three weeks ago with Mat Jackson emerging as a serious title contender following a stunning opening race win, 2nd podium and points finishes in all three races. The weekend's strong results sees the Motorbase Performance team head to Hampshire leading the Independent Team Standings, sitting third in the overall Teams' Championship with Jackson and Jordan currently 2nd and 3rd in the Independent Drivers' standings.

Thruxton has been a happy hunting ground for Motorbase in previous years, with Mat Jackson taking race wins here in 2012 and 2011 in the S2000 Focus and a stunning double podium with Airwaves Racing team-mate Fabrizio Giovanardi on the squad's last visit here in 2014. Likewise Andrew Jordan has his own enviable record around the fearsome circuit, having taken three pole positions on his last four visits to the South-West track.

Jordan has an excellent track record on the South-West circuit"After collecting our first win at Donington we're going to Thruxton with more confidence;" commented Motorbase Performance Team Manager Oly Collins.  "Thruxton is a circuit that the drivers always look forward to. Mat and Andrew as well as us as a team have enjoyed some good times there so hopefully that will continue this year. It's a unique circuit which throws up a challenge to the engineers and drivers."

"We've had a bit of a break from racing which has been used productively back at base and out testing;" added Collins.  "There's always a lot of work going on behind the scenes to help the team achieve the best results. Looking at the times from the first two events I'm sure it will be another close weekend."

The weekend's racing action gets underway at Thruxton on May 7/8. Live coverage of Sunday's events will be shown on ITV4, and also in HD from 11am – 6pm, with featuring live streaming online of Saturdays qualifying session between 4.10 and 4.40pm.

Driver Quotes:

#7 Driver Mat Jackson:
"Thruxton should be a good weekend for us off the back of a strong weekend at Donington Park. It's always nice to get that first win of the season under your belt but it's a long Championship and we need to make sure we carry that momentum forward and keep banking the points.

"Thruxton's unique - it's a fantastic circuit to race on and it always has the knack of throwing a few curve balls into the mix in terms of results. We've had some great wins and podiums here in the past, including a double podium last time we were there in 2014 and it would be mega to repeat that but based on the times we've seen so far, I think it's going to be really close."

#77 Driver Andrew Jordan:
"We had a breakthrough with the car set-up in race 3 at Donington and followed that up with a positive test last week so I'm feeling really upbeat about the weekend. The car is on the pace, and all of the pieces are coming together we just need everything to click into place and the results will come.

"I'm genuinely excited about this weekend. The car feels good and I love Thruxton. It's a proper old school circuit and my favourite on the BTCC calendar by far. It's unique in the fact that you have to be 100% committed to get the best out of the car but also look after your tyres. I've had three pole positions there in the last four years so it would be great to add to that record but three decent points finishes are the priority."
