Competing in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB
The high speed Snetterton track near Norwich is the next destination for Kent-based Motorbase Performance team over the weekend of 28/29 July. While Steven Kane heads the title race in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, local hero Matt Allison and Tom Ferrier will handle the team's SEAT Toledos in rounds 19, 20 and 21 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Norwich-based Allison will be firmly on home ground at Snetterton and will carry a great deal of local support as he races a touring car at his home track for the first time. Matt is having a fine debut season and has already shown he has the pace to mix it with the works cars. Snetterton would be the ideal place for a big result and a visit to the podium is not out of the question.
Alongside Matt for a second weekend in the Motorbase BTCC team is Tom Ferrier and he will be working hard to build his experience in the cars. His debut weekend at Donington was hit by some dreadful weather, so he will be expecting to move up the BTCC pecking order at Snetterton.
Meanwhile, the regular three-car squad of Kane, Sam Hancock and Andy Britnell will contest rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
With a 19-point lead over James Sutton and eight races to run, this is an important weekend for Kane and the Motorbase team. If Steven can keep on finishing strongly in the top three, it will be tough for Sutton to catch him. "I've always liked Snetterton so I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be good for us," says Kane.
Hancock is currently battling for fourth place in the points' standings and has been regularly pitching for podium finishes in recent races. A third podium finish was only lost at Donington in a last-lap tangle at the end of the second race of the weekend, so Sam will be determined to repeat the form that has netted him two podiums in three weekends.
In the pro-am category, Motorbase's Andy Britnell will continue his challenge to points' leader Nigel Rice. However, a non-finish in the most recent race at Donington after a clash with Colin Willmott pitched Andy into the barriers and out of the race. The team has been working flat out since Donington to repair the damage and allow Andy to get his title bid back on track.
For those not able to be at Snetterton, the full Sunday race programme will be screened on the Setanta satellite channel. In addition, the third BTCC race of the day will be broadcast live on ITV1, along with highlights of the earlier races, in a 90-minute programme starting at around 2.30pm.
