News: Kane set for Porsche Supercup debut

Steven Kane and the Motorbase Performance team will step up to race in the Porsche Supercup race during the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone next weekend (7/8 July).

The 27-year old former F3 racer will graduate in a third car entered by the Hisaq Competition team and will race alongside team leader Richard Westbrook. Kane, currently leading the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, will be run in a joint venture between Hisaq and Motorbase Performance, with backing from SAS International.

"It's a brilliant opportunity that David Bartrum and the team has arranged, and SAS are backing me to see what I can do on the bigger stage," said Kane, who now lives at Brixworth, only a few miles from Silverstone. "They've made it all possible. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be doing the race. I just have to perform for them."

The move is an extension of existing links between Hisaq and Motorbase, the team that has taken Kane to five Carrera Cup wins this season. "We have an association with the chief engineer at Hisaq, so it's a joint operation," said Motorbase boss Bartrum. "In Steven Kane, we have a talent to showcase and we're relishing the chance to move up to that level."

Kane joins the strongest ever British entry for a Supercup race, with eight British racers as well as Irishman Damien Faulkner in the 34-car entry. "If I can perform well in that race and get a top 10 result, there's no reason why I can't carry on in the future," said Kane. "Supercup is an option for the future and ultimately I want to be a professional driver. I think you can do that in Supercup. It's definitely a step up and there are a lot of very fast drivers out there. I enjoy Silverstone and I know it well, so I'm going there with some confidence."

So, while a sell-out crowd of 100,000 fans are cheering for Lewis Hamilton in the F1 race, an hour or two earlier they will be able to cheer for Steven Kane in the Porsche Supercup race.
